I want to be a B'dult!

Lately Makaylee has been obsessed with birthdays, getting big, and growing up. Here are some of the funny comments she has made lately:
"On my birthday I am going to be 8!" (like her cousins Sam & Britton)
"When I am the mommy, and you are the little girl, then I can feed Rowen."
"When I was a b'dult (adult), then I used that sharpie (knife) too!"
"When I was the mommy, I gave Rowen a bath all by myself's!"
This afternoon she asked me, "If I eat healthy food, and practice really hard, can I be a b'dult?" When I told her that she would still have to wait a long time to be an adult she started crying and said "I want to be a b'dult now!" Poor kid!

Blame Makaylee for the Blizzard!

This morning Makaylee came into my room with a tear soaked face, and she was whimpering. I asked her what was wrong, to which she replied "In my prayers I asked Heavenly Father for it to snow, and he didn't give me any!" I told her that sometimes we had to wait patiently for our prayers to be answered. She seemed okay with this, but was still a little forlorn. A few hours later I looked outside and saw that it was a blizzard. I said "Makaylee, look outside, it is snowing!" Her little face lit up as she ran to the window, she came running back and said. "Yay, now Daddy can take me sledding!" So Cute! I just love the simple faith of children!

Our Dear Prophet!

I just wanted to write a note about the passing of our dear Prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley. I was caught off guard by the sad news and asked my Dad "Was this expected?" To which he kindly reminded me "Well, Stefanie, he was 97 years old!" I know, but he was the youngest 97 year old I have ever known! He almost seemed invincible, and still so full of life! It was a sad day for me, but it made me feel better to picture what a glorious reunion he had in Heaven. First with his sweet wife, and can you imagine the congregations that were awaiting his return? I will never forget his sweet sense of humor, his straightforward way of putting things, and the way he carried his cane around and never really used it for walking. What a sweet and funny man he was! He will surely be missed!

Steve & Barry's

Sonya and I checked out Steve & Barry's yesterday. (With 3 children in tow.) Have you ever been there? It is a huge clothing store, with stuff for all ages. It kind of reminds me of Old Navy, but not quite as cute. Anyway, it was worth the drive (45 minutes because we got lost) because everything in the store right now is $8.98! It was kind of picked over (as you can imagine) but I bought Mak a cute sweater and I found some capri's for me. I have to mention, that there was a crazy, blizzardy, snow storm going on, but we were determined to go shoppin'! I only had to push us out of a snow bank one time. (Sonya, what were we thinkin?)

My little Heartbreaker

Rowen is getting so big, so darn fast! And he is just so precious. I can't believe how much faster time seems to fly with my second baby. Because, I know how fast they grow up now, and I am not ready for my baby to get big. He is rolling around, all over the place now. You put him down on a blanket, and 3 seconds later he is across the room! Ahhh! I bet he will be crawling within a few weeks! It is exciting to see him progressing, but every time he does something new, my heart breaks just a little.Rowen, making a silly face at me.

Redecorating

Much to Terry's dismay, I love to decorate, and redecorate. . . I was feeling like I had outgrown my family room's decorating theme, (and to be honest I really never loved it.) So I got rid of the green curtains and went a little more neutral.

After:
My Mom gave me the beautiful painting of Jesus for Christmas, and I paired it with the photos from Snaps and Giggles photography. I thought it turned pretty cute.

Siblings. . .

The other night I decided to take Makaylee to IKEA for a "girls only" night. I was excited to spend some quality time with Mak, seperate from the baby. We sang some songs in the car, and then it grew silent for a few minutes. I guess I was lost in my own thougths when I hear: "Boogie, Boogie, Boo, he he (Giggle, giggle)" from the back seat.
I said "Makaylee, who are you talking to?"
She replied "Baby ROWEN!" (like duh.)
I said, "Baby Rowen is at home with Daddy"
"I know Mommy, it is just for pretends!"
Then a few minutes later I hear "tickle, tickle, tickle!"
I look in the rear-view mirror, and she is actually reaching over to where Rowen normally sits and is tickling the air!
A few minutes later she says "SHHHHH Mommy, baby Rowen is asleep now!"
I said: "Do you just really miss your baby brother?"
"Yeah Mommy." (sigh. . .)

6 months old!

Rowen had his 6 month appointment last week. Here are his stats:
27 inches long (60th percent)
15 lb 14 oz (15th percent)
He had only gained 4 oz in the last month! The Dr. came in and said "He is tall and skinny" I laughed and pinched his little fat rolls and said "Does this look skinny to you?" (Refer to my previous post "Rowen's Rolls" for evidence!)
Anyway, she said he is ready to eat more solids because he is not gaining weight. The only problem is that I have been really reluctant to add new foods, because of his allergies (or, sensitivities as the Dr. calls it.) He has been doing okay on baby rice and oatmeal cereals. But the few fruits and veggies I have tried him on have given him an upset stomach! I feel so bad for him. By this age Makaylee was eating all sorts of baby foods and even some finger foods! I am going to have to do some research to find out the best foods for babies with allergies, because at this point everything we have tried has given him diarrhea. (Sorry too much info!) Poor kid!

Code BLUE!

I was at work last night, hanging out in the nurses station, when the receptionist paged overhead "Code BLUE in the main hall! Code Yellow in the main hall!" (Code Blue as in someone is dead or dying, Code yellow is an altercation or assault with our residents) Ahhh! Put those two together and it really gets my adrenaline going! I grabbed our crash kit, the other nurse grabbed the oxygen, and we went FLYING to the main hall. As I rounded the corner I saw blood splashed across the wall in the meeting room! I was seriously thinking that I was entering a murder scene! As the crowd parted, there was a staff member getting up from the ground, with a broken, busted up, bloody nose and face. And like 5 other staff members were holding a resident on the ground. (The resident had no injuries, he was just being restrained because he was out of control!) As I realized that everyone was going to live I started breathing again. If I would have held my breath any longer they would have had to call a code blue on me!

Why do I work there again?

Goodbye 2007!

Happy New Year!

2007 was a good and busy year for us, I am almost sad to see it go! While I was doing my (35) chart checks at work on New Years Day, my hand nearly cramped! Because my hand wanted to write 2007, but my brain kept saying 2008!

We had a fun New Years Eve this year at my parents house. (Who now live like 7 minutes from our house, Yay!) We watched various kid friendly shows, had lots of snacks, and played "Hungry, Hungry Hippos" for like 45 minutes! (Grandma and Grandpa are such good sports!)

Makaylee made it until midnight! In fact, she was the brightest eyed, and the bushiest tailed of all of us! The last half hour was hilarious, she was literally bouncing off the couches, yelling various, nonsensical things like "Mommy! You're hyper!"

A few minutes before midnight we got out the sparkling cider and poured some glasses. Makaylee bounced into the kitchen and yelled "Sugary Fun!" We all busted up laughing! I don't know where that saying came from, but it definitely applied to the situation, and her manic behavior!
