Being a Kid with Asthma. . .

Being a kid with eczema is tough. . . Mom won't let me play on the grass. It makes me all itchy and scratchy. I watch the other kids rolling around in the grass, and sometimes I can't help it, and I plop down on the grass too. But, then mom comes running over, picks me up and says "You can STAND on the grass, you CANNOT sit on the grass." I know that she will probably make me come inside and shower if I do it again, so I tell her, "OK, Mommy, I'll play on the sidewalk."

Being a kid with allergies is tough. . . Mommy won't let me pet kittys, and I love them SOOOO much! She tells me that they are not good for me, but I don't believe her. I tell her: "The meow is really nice, it's really careful with me Mommy! It not scratch me, it not bite me, it's really careful with me, though!"

Being a kid with asthma is tough. . . Daddy says "WALK, DON'T RUN!" I don't know why KK and my friends can run without coughing. If I do start to cough then I automatically say "I'm okay Mommy" because I am so used to her asking. If my coughs are really bad I tell Mommy "I needa Puff! (inhaler)" because I know that it will help my coughs go away, but it also makes me shaky, and I really don't like that.

When I said my prayers tonight, I said "Thank you for playing outside. . . thank you for LOOKING at the Meow. . . and thank you for STANDING on the grass." When I looked up at Mommy she smiled, but she had tears in her eyes. I don' t know why she was sad, but maybe being the Mom is tough, too!

Holey Jeans!

Makaylee has come home with a hole in the right knee of her jeans 5 times this month! Not joking! After the first 2 pairs I was a little irritated, but I figured that kids will be kids, and get holes in their pants. After the 3rd pair I was confused because they were brand new and had NO signs of wear before she had left for school. After the 4th pair I started asking her what was going on, (with I don't know being the answer.) After the 5th pair I was MAD! I sat her down, and said "What is going on at school that is making you get holes in your pants, almost every single day?"
She said "I don't KNOW!"
I said sarcastically: "Well, are you like, crawling around on your knees like a dog at recess?!"
She surprised me by responding "Well, me and Eva think that it's fun!"
So now there is a new rule: No playing 'dog' at recess!

I Rock My Baby

I rock my baby at the end of the day,
and watch her sleepily drift away.

I rock long after she starts to sleep,
wishing this moment, I could keep.

I rock because something I know,
is how fast my precious children grow.

Surprise Visit

It was 8:00 on a Tuesday night, and the house was a disaster. I had been home alone with the kids all day, because Terrill had a class after work. Rowen had just told me that he had to go potty when the doorbell rang.

I hesitated to answer the door because of the hour, but I was rewarded with 5 smiling children's faces when I did. The "Activity Day" girls I used to serve had come by my house to collect donations for "Pennies by the inch."

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Rowen bopping around, but I was a little distracted because I was embarrassed about the state of my house. I told the girls how much I missed them, and how cute they looked, but they seemed a little bit distracted, too.

As they were leaving, I walked them to the door, and my children joined me on the doorstop, happily waving goodbye. As I turned to close the door I noticed for the first time, Rowen was as NAKED as can be! (Suddenly, I understood the girls' nervous glances!)
