Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Every year we have a party with the extended family. We all have to do "talents." Usually we all end up doing something funny, it is good for a laugh. Here we are playing "Deck the Halls" on our kids heads with Boom Whackers.

Makaylee got this giant stuffed dog from my sweet grandma. She has a hard time holding the thing by herself!

Her favorite gift by far is her new bike. We have made the mistake of letting her ride it around in the house because it is so cold outside. How are we going to break that bad habit? Any ideas?!

The Aquarium

Terry left Makaylee and I for the weekend to go hunting (yes, again!) And no, they haven't killed anything yet. (It's because I keep praying for those elk to run really fast! he he he) So today, we decided to go the the Living planet Aquarium. It is a little expensive, but it's pretty neat. I think the huge aquarium at Ceasars Palace (in Las Vegas) Is much better though, and free. But it was a good time nonetheless. My mom helped to keep us company tonight, Thanks mom!

Do you want to hear a random comment that was yelled to me the other day? This is so weird. Makaylee and I were walking out of a store. I was holding her hand, waiting to cross the street, when this burly guy in a big truck slows down, and yells out his window at me "What are ya? Twins?" It took me a minute to respond, because I looked around to make sure there was no one else around. Nope. He was looking right at me, and my mini me. I just laughed and said "I guess." Aren't people weird?!

Bear Lake

We spent this last week in Bear Lake! My sister-in-law's family owns a cabin up there, and they were kind enough to invite us up. Terry went hunting with his brothers the first few days. (No they didn't kill anything.) So the girls that were left behind ejoyed time on the beach, and talking and laughing about our husbands.

Now, I could tell you about how we didn't shower for 4 days. How we constatnly had sand in our socks and underwear, and how we all have about a hundred mosquito bites. But when I look at the pictures, all I can remember is how much fun we had! Makaylee loved swimming, and playing with her cousins. She got to ride on a jeep, a tractor, and a lawnmower. We spent hours picking out pretty seashells. We ran after birds and tried to catch frogs. We roasted marshmallows, and laughed around the campfire. It was beautiful!

Makaylee's Masterpiece

As you can tell by my last post, I've been really into painting. This week I painted a big canvas to go over my dining room table. While I was painting Makaylee kept saying "mommy, it's my turn!", " I want to paint mommy!" I kept telling her that she could paint when I was all done with my painting. She was so patient! (Because it took a really long time to finish!) When I was finally done, I gave her a piece of paper and the 4 colors I was painting with, and let her go to town!I honestly think her painting turned out better than mine! She was such a perfectionist! It took her over 30 minutes to paint this. She loved it! We have her masterpiece hanging on our magnent board, and she loves to show it off to people when the come over!
This is the painting I did. It will give you a head ache if you stare at it too long! :)

Painting

I got bored this week and painted a canvas with my friend Sonya. Hers was bright green, with black and grey ovals. It was tons of fun. It may not be professional, but it only cost $15 for all the supplies! That beats $150! I also painted the trim in our office a dark brown. It is different, but I like it!

Are you stuck Mommy?

Guess what my sweet daughter did today? She dead-bolted me out of the house, with her inside! That little stinker! I didn't even know she could reach the dead bolt. I had innocently run out to the garage to grab something from the car. I went to open the door, and it was locked! I heard her on the other side playing with the door knob, so I tried to talk to her and tell her to turn the door knob for about 5 minutes. Then she disappeared. I couldn't hear her at all. So I ran around the house to see if any of the windows or doors were open (nope.) The even worse thing was that all the blinds were closed, so I couldn't even see her! I went back to the garage and started shaking the door. I'm yelling "Makaylee, Makaylee!"

I hear this little voice. "What?" (like what's the big deal?) Then "Are you stuck mommy?"

A few minutes later I hear distant crying and I get really worried. "What's wrong Kaylee?"

"I want to watch Dora" (She is obviously not worried about me.)

I run to the neighbor’s house, he tries to break in (unsuccessfully.) " Should I call the police?" I ask him.

" no."

"Should I call the locksmith?"

" no, too expensive" he says.

So, I use his phone. I call Terry's school, they pull him out of class and tell him to hurry home because his baby is locked in the house alone.

I wait. . . and shake the door, and wait some more. I pull the weather stripping out of the door. I shove various things in the now larger crack. I finally pry it open with a paint scraper! I run into the house and hear music upstairs. I find Makaylee in her room, playing with a musical toy, completely calm. She looks up at my red and panting face for a moment, "Hi mommy" then returns her attention to the toy. However her legs were inexplicably blue. She must have found a marker and colored all over her legs. I'm just glad she didn't color all over the walls.
Moments later Terry gets home. He runs in the house, his face red and panting. "You really need a cell phone!" I said.

My newest little nephew was born June 21! He was 6 lbs 15.8 oz. and 20 inches. He is such a sweet little baby! Congratulations Jeni and Steve (on baby #5!)

Disneyland Vacation

We just got back from Disneyland! We had so much fun. Makaylee was so good, considering that she is 2! She loved the Teacups, we rode them 4 times! She also loved the Electrical Parade. On Saturday we went to the beach and to my favorite restaurant the Cheesecake Factory! Yumm! Now that we're home we're going through withdrawals! Makaylee keeps asking me if we can ride the teacups, and go to the beach. I would love to take this vacation every year!

Life Is Good!

Last night, before I put Makaylee to bed, we poked our heads in the computer room to say goodnight to daddy. Of course she wanted Daddy to hold her and play with her for a minute. When I started to take her from him she started crying, "Want Daddy too!" So all three of us headed into her darkened bedroom. We hugged and said our prayers. We started singing Makaylee's goodnight song, and she wanted to sing it over and over and over. It was quite the noise with Terry singing low, me singing high, and Makaylee howling a few words here and there and completely off key. I think normally I would have been a little agitated, thinking of all the things I needed to do after Makaylee when to bed. But not last night, I closed my eyes and thought, there is no where in the world I would rather be right now, and I wish this moment would last forever!!

I went to lunch with my friend Sonya today. She has a little girl that is almost one. Makaylee loved playing with her and playing on the slides. Sonya is building a house one block away and I am so excited for them to move in!

Later today my sister-in-law Heather called and asked if I wanted to go to the Aquarium at the Gateway. (Of course I did!) We met her and her twin girls (14 months old) by the fountain at Gateway, and guess what? The Aquarium was moved to Sandy! We decided to stay at Gateway anyway and shop (and spend way too much money,) eat, and let the 3 girls play in the fountain. We stopped at the Chocolate Cottage and bought chocolate strawberries for us, and rice krispy treats for the girls. Makaylee got one look at my strawberry and decided suddenly that she didn't like rice crispy treats. She ate half of my strawberry! Heather and I got caught up and did plenty of "talking" about our husbands (who are brothers.) he he he

It really is fun to be the mother of a 2 year old. (Really!) Because Makaylee is so facinated about the small things, it makes me pay more attention to them. Who knew that walking to the park one block away would take 20 minutes, and that the journey would be more fun than the destination!

Elephants

For some reason Makaylee has a new obsession. Elephants. During the day time hours she loves them. She likes to watch movies with elephants and read books with pictures of elephants. But as soon as the sun sets, they are something to be feared.

It started one night as I was putting her to bed. She sat straight up in her crib and said "No Elephant! No like-a elephant." She was staring at the window with huge fearful eyes. I told her there was no elephants, but she didn't believe me. When I told her to show me the elephant she clung tight to me as I pulled her out of her crib. She pointed to her valance. It is a big puffy valance that is gathered in 3 places. I guess it could reasonably look like an elephant when it is dark at night. So I unhooked it and let the curtain fall flatly over the window. She let out an audible sigh of relief and said "Elephant all gone!"

I thought the problem was solved until we were in the car driving home in the dark tonight. I said "We're almost home." Makaylee replied "No elephants home, no like-a elephants." And sure enough, when I put her to bed I had to show her that the curtain was really just a curtain, and not an elephant at all! It reminds me of that trippy part in Dumbo where he gets drunk and has a freaky dream about colorful elephants that change sizes and sing scary songs. Maybe she had a trippy dream about elephants herself!

Our Friendly Girl!

Today Makaylee and I went to the Library for story time, but it was cancelled. So we went to the childrens section and picked out a few books to read ourselves. This cute little boy came up and sat next to us. He listened to me read a book and then he asked if I would read his book to him. It was so cute! But Makaylee didn't think so. She just kept staring at him with a not-so-pleasant look on her face and never said a word to him (or me) while I was reading with them both. Later Kaylee was playing with this magnent toy thing for a while. When she was done some cute little sisters started playing with the toy. Makaylee walked over to them and said "No like a girls!" I was so embarassed! The little one said "We dont' want to play with you!" The older sister told the little one to be nice and let Makaylee play, but instead she and Makaylee just stared each other down until I stepped in and interrupted. I don't know where this new attitude came from!

Potty Training

So, we started potty training, (not very seriously,) but I have been putting Kaylee on the toilet about once a day, just to get her used to the idea. Well today I was getting some lunch ready and Makaylee disappeared, I heard her running around upstairs and so I went up to check on her. I found her in the bathroom with her favorite doll "Jada." She had put her doll on the potty seat, complete with toilet paper between her legs, no joke! I had to take a picture, I thought it was so funny! At least she is getting the idea!

Two Years Old!

Happy Birthday Baby!

April 9th was Makaylee's 2nd birthday! I can't believe she is already that old! We had a huge Birthday party for her at our house, both sides of the family came (33 people!) We bought a 6 foot sub from The Philidelphian. . . yummmm! Makaylee loved being the center of attention and got lots of nice gifts.

She is really sick right now though. She had a fever of 104! The doctor said it was just a virus, so she just has to let it run it's course. It is so sad, she has just been laying around and not being herself at all!

Big Slacker

I know, I'm a big slacker. . . I haven't written for months! But we are finally moved into our new home! We are so excited to have our own home again. . . Except for Makaylee, she misses living with Grandma and Grandpa. She's still going through withdrawls. One day she blurts out "All Done, ALL DONE!" ("with what Makaylee?") "All done, NEW HOUSE!!!" I feel so bad for her! It's a huge adjustment for an almost-2-year-old!

I thought I would just put a few pictures of Christmas (so fun), and Makaylee being a goon in our new house (wearing my shoes and looking proud!)
