Are you stuck Mommy?

Guess what my sweet daughter did today? She dead-bolted me out of the house, with her inside! That little stinker! I didn't even know she could reach the dead bolt. I had innocently run out to the garage to grab something from the car. I went to open the door, and it was locked! I heard her on the other side playing with the door knob, so I tried to talk to her and tell her to turn the door knob for about 5 minutes. Then she disappeared. I couldn't hear her at all. So I ran around the house to see if any of the windows or doors were open (nope.) The even worse thing was that all the blinds were closed, so I couldn't even see her! I went back to the garage and started shaking the door. I'm yelling "Makaylee, Makaylee!"

I hear this little voice. "What?" (like what's the big deal?) Then "Are you stuck mommy?"

A few minutes later I hear distant crying and I get really worried. "What's wrong Kaylee?"

"I want to watch Dora" (She is obviously not worried about me.)

I run to the neighbor’s house, he tries to break in (unsuccessfully.) " Should I call the police?" I ask him.

" no."

"Should I call the locksmith?"

" no, too expensive" he says.

So, I use his phone. I call Terry's school, they pull him out of class and tell him to hurry home because his baby is locked in the house alone.

I wait. . . and shake the door, and wait some more. I pull the weather stripping out of the door. I shove various things in the now larger crack. I finally pry it open with a paint scraper! I run into the house and hear music upstairs. I find Makaylee in her room, playing with a musical toy, completely calm. She looks up at my red and panting face for a moment, "Hi mommy" then returns her attention to the toy. However her legs were inexplicably blue. She must have found a marker and colored all over her legs. I'm just glad she didn't color all over the walls.
Moments later Terry gets home. He runs in the house, his face red and panting. "You really need a cell phone!" I said.
